Covering more than 520 square miles, Brown County, Wis., was formed in 1818 and named after a military leader from 1815 to 1828, according to the Wisconsin Online website. With a rich history, the county is a scenic treasure that includes forests and prairie grasses, while offering a host of recreational opportunities.

Brown County Reforestation Camp

Providing nearly 1,600 acres, the Reforestation Camp is home to numerous outdoor activities year-round. Hike, bike or ride by horseback along miles of picturesque trails. Picnic and fish along the numerous ponds. During the winter, visitors can take advantage of the cross-country ski and snowmobile trails at the Reforestation Camp. In the fall, the camp boasts a rifle range. The Reforestation Camp also houses an observation tower and the Northeastern Wisconsin Zoo.

Fonferek Glen County Park

A natural wonder, Fonferek Glen County Park provides visitors with more than 70 acres of unique terrain. The park contains a breathtaking view of a 30-foot waterfall and a natural stone bridge. The area also contains native trees and prairie, picnic areas and hiking trails.

Apple Creek Campground

The Apple Creek Campground boasts 130 camping sites on 11 acres of wooded land. The campground aptly has the Apple Creek go through it. In the center of the campground is a pond that offers fishing, ducks and wildlife. The campground offers electric, water and sewer hook-ups. Activities also include horseshoes, golfing and swimming.
