The Great Smoky Mountains in Tennessee and North Carolina are part of the Appalachian Mountain range. There are 500 miles of fishable and swimmable streams and more than 70 hiking trails that weave through the area where hikers can enjoy the beauty of the mountains and anglers can try their luck catching breakfast. Other outdoor activities include several golf courses, tennis, boating and horseback riding. There are other attractions such as Dollywood Amusement park, Ripley's Aquarium, Nascar Speed Park, Rocky Top Tours, Dixie Stampede Dinner Theater, outlet malls and Harrah's Casino.

The Preserve Resort

Perched on a ridge in the Smoky Mountains of Tennessee is the Preserve Resort, 10 minutes away from the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Guest cabins come in a variety of sizes, from one-bedroom cabins that sleep four to eight people, all the way up to cabins with 12 bedrooms that can accommodate as many as 40. On location is a conference center, meeting center and a wedding chapel. There is also a fitness center, sauna, steam room, massage service, swimming pool and a nature area. Local activities include visiting Cades Cove to explore old pioneer cabins, horseback riding and fishing, as well as hiking and biking.

Little Valley Mountain Resort

The Little Valley Mountain Resort has 85 secluded log cabins, each with its own yard, at a nice distance from neighbors and with a private view of the mountains. Guests can take part in all the activities and amenities of the resort such as the heated outdoor pool, 18-hole miniature golf course, par 3 golf course, jogging and hiking. There are several stocked fishing ponds where guests can fish without a license. Local outdoor activities include Cades Cove, Clingmans Dome, and Elkmont, where hiking, fishing and picnicking are available.

Wyndham Vacation Resort

Located in a meadow alongside the Smoky Mountains in Sevierville, Tenn., is the Wyndham Vacation Resort. This condominium-style lodging has a variety of suites available from regular to deluxe suites that have one or two bedrooms. All are outfitted with a washer/dryer, as well as a living room with convertible sofa, a dining area and large bedrooms. On-site amenities include two swimming pools, a pool for children, a water play area, two hot tubs, a fitness center, sauna, miniature golf, children's play area and a location reserved for picnicking and barbecuing. Guests can also elect to participate in any of the many planned local activities such as boating, hiking, fishing, golf, mountain climbing and tennis, or indulge in them on their own.

The Resort at Governor's Crossing

The Resort at Governor's Crossing is a condominium-style complex that overlooks the pools and water park. There are studio and units of one to three bedrooms, all with wireless Internet, cable TV and DVD players. Each accommodation comes with a full kitchen, balcony, living room, dining area and a washer and dryer. Guests can enjoy the indoor/outdoor water park and its many ancillary activities like water volleyball, water basketball, 20-person hot tub, Finlandia Sauna and outdoor Jacuzzi. There is a game room and exercise room too.
