Situated about 30 miles east of Pittsburgh, Greensburg, Pa., offers many activities for outdoor enthusiasts. At nearby Twin Lakes Park, pedal boats, canoes and rowboats can be rented on one of the lakes. In the winter, cross-country skis can be rented. In the summer, Peach Plaza Skate & Action Park provides a playground for bike and skateboard daredevils. The Five Star Trail allows you to bike or walk through downtown Greensburg to Youngwood, a distance of close to eight miles.

Those wishing to fill up on pasta and other Italian entrees can choose from many local restaurants.

Carbone's Restaurant

Located six miles north of Greensburg on state Route 119, Carbone's began offering delicious Italian meals in 1938. Originally opened as a pool hall by Natale and Mary Carbone, Carbone's first customers were locals who loved Mary's sandwiches and snacks. Since then, it has become a destination for Italian food lovers. Carbone's is located near the Five Star Trail.

Giannilli's II

Giannilli's II, located along U.S. Route 30, offers Italian cuisine in an Italian setting. Owned by Gino and Mike Giannilli, the restaurant also has a restaurant in Carbon, Pa. Giannilli's is a short drive on U.S. Route 30 from Twin Lakes Park and the Ann Rudd Saxman Nature Park.

Olive Garden

The Olive Garden, a national chain, can be considered Americanized Italian fare. Located on U.S. Route 30 by the Westmoreland Mall and Twin Lakes Park, The Olive Garden can be a quick stop before or after hiking or boating.

Rizzo's Malabar Inn

Located on state Route 119 near Carbone's Restaurant, The Malabar Inn was originally a bar on the first floor of current owner Jerry DeFabo's great-grandparents' home. In 1954, Rezero "Rizzo" DeFabo changed its name to Rizzo's Malabar Inn. Now run by Jerry DeFabo's sons, Rizzi and Jerry Jr., this local landmark is known for its home-style Italian dining and its annual Feast of St. Joseph on March 19. It is located six miles from Twin Lakes Park.

Sunset Café

Located in the heart of Greensburg near Offut and St. Clair parks, the Sunset Café was founded in 1933 when "Grandma Pantalone served her first dish of pasta," according to its website. The restaurant also offers a gluten-free menu and is near The Five Star Trail.
