Restaurants in North Beach, San Francisco

Restaurants in North Beach, San Francisco
North Beach is San Francisco's classic Italian immigrant neighborhood. It is even home to the oldest Italian restaurant in all of America, established in 1886, and one of the area's finest Catholic cathedrals, the Saints Peter and Paul Church. When you finish hiking the famed Telegraph Hill stairs, be sure to stop by this area to enjoy one of the most authentic Italian meals on the coast.

Mangarosa

With a brilliant blend of Brazilian and Italian cuisines, Mangarosa (meaning "pink mango" in Italian) is quickly becoming a top restaurant in North Beach. The owners are from Brazil, and the Italian-American chef, Niccolo Leone, works well with the entrepeneurs to develop entirely new and delightful culinary treats, such as veal ossobuco with sautéed spätzel and beef tomato sauce, and Mango Crème Brûleé.

Calzone's

Located right in the center of Columbus Street, Calzone's is one of the most popular restaurants in all of North Beach. The restaurant offers a full bar and innovative Italian fusion cuisine. Try the Swiss chard calzone with artichokes and Fontana cheese or the seared lamb served on arugula with wasabi vinaigrette. For dessert, enjoy the tortuga Caribbean rum cake.

Capp's Corner

Capp's Corner is a family-style restaurant located next door to Beach Blanket Babylon, making it an ideal stop for any large group visiting the theater. The classic restaurant has a rich history spanning the past 50 years and features photographs from many of its past celebrity diners, including Joe DiMaggio and Marilyn Monroe. If you are looking for a cheaper dining experience than other local North Beach restaurants, try the $15.50 family dinner that comes with soup, salad and pasta with your choice of sauces.

North Beach Pizza

When you're in the mood for a classic pizza pie, try North Beach Pizza, one of the most popular pizza shops in the area. While the menu also includes pasta, calzones and salads, the pies are most certainly the biggest attractions here. If you're looking for something different and unique to the Bay Area, try the San Francisco Special with garlic and clams, or the Cable Car Special with chicken, bacon, creamy garlic sauce, tomatoes and green onions.
