Vermont Day Bus Trips to Botanical Gardens in Canada

Vermont Day Bus Trips to Botanical Gardens in Canada
The Botanical Gardens of Montreal are a living museum of thousands of plants from all areas of the globe and have been ranked as one of the largest botanical garden collections in the world. Located just within a day's bus ride of Vermont, they are relatively easily accessible from any major Vermont city or town.

The Main Route

Greyhound Lines offers four daily departures to Montreal from the city of White River Junction, Vt. Departures are early morning (2:40 a.m.), late morning (10:35 a.m.), early afternoon (1:10 p.m.), and evening (5:30 p.m.), making stops at the cities of Montpelier and Burlington, Vt., and the U.S.-Canadian border along the way. The total trip takes just over four hours from White River Junction, three from Montpelier, and two and a half hours from Burlington. The bus arrives in downtown Montreal at the central bus station and Berri-UQUAM metro station, a major transportation hub. Once at the bus station, simply go downstairs to the subway and take the green line metro six stops east (toward Honore-Beaugrand) to the Pie-IX station, the site of the 1976 Summer Olympic Games. The gardens are located just a block away from the subway stop.

Southern Vermont Origins

Travel from southern Vermont towns such as Brattleboro and Bellows Falls connect to the main bus route in White River Junction. Depending on the time of year one travels, the Botanical Gardens may already be closed by the time the bus arrives in Montreal, thus requiring an overnight hotel stay in Burlington if originating from Brattleboro or Bellows Falls.

Botanical Gardens Information

The Botanical Gardens are open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday except for national holidays from Nov. 1 to the middle of May. During the summer season--mid-May to early September--the gardens are open every day from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. During the fall season from early September to Oct. 31, special exhibits are on display, and the hours extend from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. every day.

Travel Document Information

As stated on the U.S. Customs and Border Protection website, U.S. and Canadian citizens who are 16 and older and traveling between the United States and Canada are required to present a valid passport, passport card, frequent traveler card or an enhanced driver's license if they are a resident of a state that issues them. U.S. and Canadian citizens who are 15 years old or younger may travel with a copy of their birth certificate, as may teens between the ages of 16 to 18 if they are part of an adult supervised school, religious, cultural or athletic group. Passengers should be aware that they are not permitted to board the bus without proper compliant travel documents, as they will be denied entry or re-entry into Canada or the United States.
