Colonie, a town in Albany County, is the largest suburb of the capital city of New York state, Albany. The town is just north of Albany at the northern border of the county. Colonie is actually two villages, one called Colonie and the other Menands. Getting a hotel room in or near Colonie will be less expensive than a similar-sized accommodation in downtown Albany. Just a few minutes from the downtown area, visitors to the capital city should make an attempt to visit Lark Street, a commercial area of 19th-century brownstones; The Empire State Plaza, featuring artwork, architecture and "The Egg," a uniquely shaped performing arts center; as well as the Times Union Center, a concert and sports venue.
