Hotels in the Albany, New York Area

Hotels in the Albany, New York Area
The capital city of New York, Albany is about 140 miles north of New York City. Sitting on the Hudson River in the north end of the Hudson River Valley, Albany is surrounded by the suburbs of Troy, Schenectady and Saratoga Springs. Altogether, the area is known as the Capital District. The New York State Thruway (Route 87), which runs north from New York, turns west at Albany heading to Syracuse and then Buffalo. State government is the main business with most state buildings in the heart of the city. The State University at Albany is also located within city boundaries.

Just outside of the city are numerous hiking opportunities, but one worth seeing above others is the Plotter Kill Preserve with its three waterfalls. The terrain is very rugged with steep slopes but the view of the three sets of waterfalls is spectacular and worth the hike.
