Saugerties, New York, is a charming village in the heart of the Hudson River Valley region of the state. Outdoor recreational opportunities include Saugerties Village Beach on the shores of Esopus Creek, which offers visitorsswimming and fishing areas, and a boat launch. The Esopus Bend Nature Preserve covers 161 acres with hiking trails, guided nature walks and canoe tours of the shoreline. Cafe Mezzaluna

Café Mezzaluna is convenient to the New York State Thruway and serves three meals a day. Breakfast includes homemade croissants, breads, Danishes and pancakes. The combination of Hispanic and American offerings makes for a diverse lunch and dinner menu. The restaurant is well known by locals for its Cuban sandwich and Paninis. Diners are entertained by local musicians, and the exhibitions of local artists' work change frequently.

Miss Lucy's Kitchen

Miss Lucy's Kitchen uses only hormone- and antibiotic-free eggs, poultry, meat and dairy, and features produce grown by local farmers. The restaurant has a garden that provides many herbs and vegetables used in its dishes. The menu changes daily depending on the season and available fresh ingredients. Sample dinner offerings have included French onion soup gratinee, salmon tartare with house-made potato chips, duck confit ravioli with sage brown butter, and Meiller's Farm ribeye steak. Save room for desert as you don't want to miss out on Miss Lucy's home-made ice cream in flavors such as toasted coconut, burnt caramel and honey nougat.

Cafe Tamayo

Café Tamayo is located in the center of Saugerties' historic village in a building constructed in 1864. The restaurant has a cozy, rustic atmosphere with room for only 35 diners. Focusing on preparing food with local ingredients, the menu changes daily and is designed as a three- or four-course dinner. Ala carte options are often available. A sample four-course meal includes curried butternut squash soup, mixed greens salad with honey mustard vinaigrette, an entrée of braised rabbit and poached pear with coconut sorbet. Other entrée choices may include chicken meatballs with artichoke and olives, pan-roasted veal chop or filet mignon with horseradish cream.
