Located off Interstate 10 between Tallahassee and Pensacola, DeFuniak Springs is the county seat for Walton County, Fla. With a history tied to the railroad and Florida Chautauqua Association, DeFuniak has a popular historical district. The area has fishing, hunting, golfing and boating. The Gulf of Mexico is about a 30-minute drive.

Situated on the 580-acre King Lake and approximately 40 miles north of Destin and Fort Walton Beach, Sunset King RV Resort has 220 sites, 90 of which are pull-thru and capable of handling large RVs up to 70 feet long. Juniper Lake RV Campground is about 5 miles off Interstate 10 and about 35 miles north of Destin and Fort Walton Beach. It has 20 sites with 30- or 50-amp full hookups and features restrooms with showers, laundry facilities, cable TV, Wi-Fi and a playground. It is pet-friendly.

Vortex Spring Camping and Diving Resort

Located about 11 miles east of DeFuniak Springs, Vortex Spring Camping and Diving Resort in Ponce de Leon is on 420 acres of rolling hills, pines and is the largest diving facility in Florida. It is a top-ranked training facility and offers scuba diving training for all levels. There are 20 RV sites with water and electricity, bath houses with showers and a strict "no pet" policy. Lodge room rentals are also available.
