Located about 14 miles northeast of Tampa, Fla., Thonotosassa's history is closely tied to the railroad and citrus industries. Hillsborough River State Park is a popular destination for outdoor activities, with hiking, kayaking, canoeing and fishing. Thonotosassa is about an hour from the Gulf of Mexico for boating and sailing. Orlando also is about an hour east of Thonotosassa.

Hillsborough River State Park

Located 9 miles north of Tampa, Hillsborough River was one of Florida's first state parks. The Hillsborough River flows through the park and provides opportunities for wildlife viewing, fishing, canoeing, kayaking and hiking on over seven miles of nature trials. There are over 75 sites with full RV hookups that include restrooms, a swimming pool and a dump station. Canoe and bike rentals are available, and tent camping is also permitted. Reservations are recommended.

Spanish Main RV Park

Spanish Main RV Park is about 10 miles from Tampa. It has 275 sites with 30- or 50-amp full hookups and features three bathhouses with showers, two laundromats, Wi-Fi, a swimming pool, clubhouse, recreation hall, shuffleboard courts and fishing ponds. It is pet-friendly.

Happy Traveler RV Park

Happy Traveler RV Park has easy access from Interstate 75 and is 4.5 miles from Busch Gardens in Tampa. It has 224 sites with 30- or 50-amp full hookups and can accommodate big rigs. The park has restrooms with showers, three laundry facilities, cable TV, Wi-Fi, a recreation center, pool, shuffleboard courts and is pet-friendly.
