European Youth Hostels

European Youth Hostels
In 1912, the first European youth hostel began at Altena Castle in Germany, as a way for city children to visit the country while helping out with the upkeep of the castle. Since then, Hosteling International has grown to include hosteling associations in every country in Europe. Traditionally, housing is in dormitories, but private accommodations are increasingly available, too. Despite being referred to as "youth hostels," many hostels are not solely limited to young people, giving travelers of all ages an opportunity to see Europe while experiencing this unique and communal form of accommodation.
You can identify HI member hostels by the blue triangle symbol each carries. All of them provide access to the magnificent sights and outdoor activities of their European locations, whether you're interested in a city break, weekend in the mountains or an active beach getaway
Since HI sponsors hundreds of hostels all over Europe, be sure to visit the HI official site before your trip, which offers complete, detailed listings of amenities and pricing for all HI member hostels, as well as user reviews.
