Steakhouses in Boston

Steakhouses in Boston
The city of Boston offers several fine dining options for those who find themselves craving some meat, potatoes and some fine wine to go with them. That being said, this list was carefully compiled by a Boston meat eater who considers the following to be the very best and most memorable steakhouses in town, each with its own unique flavor. After all, die-hard, meat-eating trail travelers should be picky when it comes to where they'll spend $40 on a rib eye, no matter what the city.

Abe and Louie's

Possibly one of Boston's most respected and well-known steakhouses, Abe and Louie's is located in the city's ritzy Back Bay area and so may tend to attract some of the more affluent and flashy of Boston's meat eaters. Besides offering top-notch steaks, this restaurant has an extensive, pricey wine list and and more than 15 side dishes, which include lobster macaroni and cheese and Abe's special hash brown potatoes. Needless to say, you don't need to be a rich man to dine here. For a more understated--and less expensive dining experience--head to Abe and Louie's for lunch, and you will notice a significant price difference on the menu, but with the same, impeccable dishes and service.

Fleming's Prime Steakhouse and Wine Bar

Fleming's, located on border of Back Bay and the South End, is another top-notch choice for steaks, as well as for wine lovers. By dining here, steak and wine snobs would never guess it was part of a fairly large chain (there are more than 60 locations in the U.S.).

This restaurant offers more than 100 wines by the glass--30 of which are $10 and under. But don't go laughing to the bank just yet-- as with any steakhouse in Boston, dining here will set you back a few, as everything on the menu is a la carte--meaning that steaks, sides and starter salads are each priced separately (and can add up pretty quickly when one is in an indulgent mood).

Mooo Restaurant

For the most modern twist on meat, head over to Mooo on Boston's Beacon Hill. With its bright, white-focused decor and comfortable plush seating, at first you may not feel as if you are in a steakhouse. But this will quickly change when you sample one of chef/owner's Jamie Mammano's creative takes on meat. Here you can be as extravagant (by trying the 6-oz. Japanese sirloin cut known as the "True Kobe Beef Kagoshima Prefecture") or as understated (by sampling the 18-oz. rib eye) as you like. An added bonus is that Mooo is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

The Butcher Shop

In Boston's bustling South End neighborhood, an afternoon or evening at the Butcher Shop is a delicious way to satisfy both your meat and wine cravings, as well as to sharpen your people-watching skills at the same time. At the Butcher Shop, you will not only find a variety of steak cuts on the menu, but also a mouth-watering selection of game and poultry.

A visit here is sure to leave your tummy full, minus the pressure to spend lots of cash. Perhaps this is due to the restaurant's having plenty of tables, designated both for diners who plan to eat heartily or those just hoping to share an appetizer of steak tartare and bottle of Cab among their fellow meat-eating friends.
