As such, many kid-themed restaurants are springing up, and many offer treats for grown-ups as well, including adult-oriented food and unique mixed drinks.

Alice's Tea Cup

If you are seeking a unique place to take a child, this Alice in Wonderland themed tea shop is a great choice for lunch or "afternoon tea." The restaurant has a breakfast, lunch and brunch menu, with selections running in the $10 to $12 range. For special occasions, Alice's Tea Cup has a line of cakes that are sure to suit any child's imagination. The tea shop is open from 8 a.m. until 8 pm. seven days a week.

Cowgirl Hall of Fame is a kid-friendly restaurant that is a treat for adults. The motif is rustic and western, with a theme of cowboys, cowgirls and the Old West. Mars 2112

Mars 2112 is a space themed restaurant with "spaceship" cars and a funky sci-fi environment. There are actors in full martian costumes walking the floor and be sure to check out the "Crystal Crater"--a three-story crystal tree covered by a glass canopy that provides a "view of Mars." Mars 2112 is open everyday from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. and food is moderately priced, ranging from $10 to $20.

Peanut Butter & Co

Provided your kid isn't allergic to peanuts, you may want to check out Peanut Butter & Co, which is dedicated to peanut butter sandwiches. The restaurant has more than 20 variations of the peanut butter sandwich, including The Fluffernutter and the Peanut Butter BLT. Most sandwiches are about $4 and Peanut Butter & Co is open Sunday through Thursday, 11 a.m. - 9 p.m., and Friday and Saturday 11 a.m. - 10 p.m.

If your child enjoys all things spooky, then the Jekyll & Hyde Club New York might be a fun choice. This theme restaurant has many skeletons, ghouls and goblins, but it might be a bit too scary for younger kids. The menu has pasta, burgers, salads and entrees and a kids' menu for those under 12. Be warned! The food is expensive--entrees are more than $20. Open from 11 a.m. until 11 p.m. 365 days a year.

With an Asian theme, Ninja New York could be a good choice for older kids into martial arts or Asian culture. It may be a little too scary for young ones, but older kids will enjoy the Ninjas randomly appearing out of nowhere. Unlike many theme restaurants, this one is known for its food, especially the sushi. However, Ninja New York is rather expensive, with entrees priced at more than $20. Open everyday from 5:45 p.m. until 10 p.m.
