Restaurants in Palm Desert, California
In the heart of California's Coachella Valley, surrounded by mountains and miles of untouched landscape, Palm Desert is a relaxing oasis, built around vacationers and retirees. Known for its five-star resorts and championship golf courses, Palm Desert offers a wealth of outdoor activities--from hiking in the beautiful Santa Rosa and San Jacinto Mountains National Monument to flying high above the ground in a hot air balloon. Attracting visitors from around the world, the area is home to a variety of restaurants.

Lord Fletcher's

The cornerstone of the famous 'restaurant row' on highway 111, Lord Fletcher's has been a staple of Palm Desert since it opened in 1966. Bob Hope, Frank Sinatra and the rest of the Rat Pack--along with dozens of politicians, celebrities and influential businessmen have all been regulars at the elegant old-fashioned English inn. Adorned in rare art, authentic antiques and historic memorabilia, Lord Fletcher's vast collection of influential British artifacts rivals many museums--including the genuine fourth and final--A. Edgerton Cooper portrait of Sir Winston Churchill. Owned and operated by the same family since it opened, the restaurant serves classic Old English cuisine--savory prime rib, traditional chicken and dumplings and delicious English rice pudding made from scratch. With hearty portions, a rich history and a warm and sophisticated atmosphere, Lord Fletcher's is an important facet of the Desert.

Executive chef and owner, Patricia Hook serves classic California cuisine, such as rack of lamb, seafood linguini and grilled pork tenderloin enhanced by the subtle incorporation of Asian, Mexican and Indian flavors. The unique blending of ingredients and range of flavors is evident in the diversity of the menu--from firecracker shrimp with a spicy chipotle sauce to miso ginger glazed scallops. Guests relax and dine outdoors with a front row seat for people watching on El Paseo, or stay indoors and enjoy the wonderful sounds of the live pianist.

Castelli's Ristorante

A local favorite, the cozy Castelli's Ristorante serves traditional Italian recipes with fresh homemade flavors coupled with an extensive selection of fine wines. Murals of Tuscany adorn the walls and the soft lighting, lace curtains and smell of fresh flowers--create a welcoming and homely environment. Diners enjoy chef Brian Altman's signature dishes, such as grilled pork chops, linguine di mare and bistecca aragosta, as the talented Joe Jaggi sings classic Frank Sinatra tunes in the background. With a choice of dining in one of its intimate private rooms, an enclosed patio or in the celebrity lined photo room, the romantic Italian bistro prides itself on providing friendly personalized service.
