Youth Hostels in Boston, Mass
Whether you're in Boston to row along the Charles River, bike on the Esplanade or ski at any of the mountains in the region, hostels can be an affordable accommodation alternative in a city where hotel rooms average more than $100 per night. Hostels are scattered throughout the city and Boston's public transportation makes it easy to get to your recreation destination.

Hostelling International Boston

Located in the Back Bay neighborhood of downtown Boston, HI-Boston features 205 beds in mostly dormitory rooms sleeping six individuals, though there are a limited number of private rooms available.

Dormitory rooms, which are designated male, female or co-ed, offer a personal reading lamp and assigned locker for each guest with shared bathroom facilities. Private rooms, which do not have their own bathroom, have either one double bed or two twin beds and sleep one or two people.

Rates begin at $29.99 per night for a twin bed and $79.99 per night for a private room; all rates vary depending on the time of year. A free continental breakfast of coffee and pastries is included in the rate. Check-in time is noon and checkout time is 11 a.m.

Reservations must be made 24 hours in advance of check in and can be made at the hostel's Web site. Government issued photo identification is required at check in. There are no age restrictions, but guests under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

Parking is not available, but public transportation is nearby on the green line of the MBTA subway.

The Prescott International Hotel and Hostel

Located in Everett, about 25 minutes outside the city, the Prescott International bills itself as the "Ritz Carlton" of Boston hostels. The property, which is housed in a converted 19th-century hotel, offers private rooms with one or two twin beds and en suite bathrooms, as well as traditional dormitory rooms, which are either male, female or mixed gender, with two to four beds per room. Dormitory rooms also feature their own bathroom shared by the occupants of the room.

Room rates range from $25 per person per night for a bed in a dormitory room to as much as $80 for a private room. Rates are higher in the summer.

There is free Wi-Fi throughout the hostel, which also has a common room with a 50-inch television and complimentary tea and coffee in the morning. There is also free parking and luggage storage

All guests must check-in by 10 p.m.

YMCA of Greater Boston

Located in downtown Boston in the Back Bay section, the YMCA of Greater Boston offers dormitory and private rooms with shared bathrooms. All rooms include linens and internet access, and guests can use the indoor swimming pool and gym at the facility.

Room rates begin at $25 for a twin bed in a four-person dormitory room and increase to $35 for a twin or bunk bed in a two-person room. A private room is available beginning at $50. There are no private bathrooms, all facilities are shared by all the guests.

The YMCA features bicycle and on-street vehicle parking, laundry facilities and a 24-hour front desk. Public transportation, both bus and subway, is nearby. All guests must be at least 18 years old.

Please note during winter, usually from November to mid-May, all rooms are male only.
