Union Square Cafe

Union Square Cafe, Danny Meyer's restaurant that opened in 1985, has been New York's most popular restaurant for 8 years, according to the Zagat guide. The food is described on the website as "seasonal American food with an Italian soul," and the restaurant serves lunch and dinner, along with dessert and wine lists. Lunch dishes include Greenmarket squash tortellini with cranberry-sage brown butter, a yellowfin tuna burger with ginger-mustard glaze and grilled red onions, and Berkshire pork lasagna with ricotta and Pioppini mushroom-pesto sauce. For dinner, you can enjoy oven-roasted Giannone chicken with Anson Mills polenta, root vegetables and Swiss chard pesto; ricotta gnocchi with tomato-basil passatina and Pecorino Romano; and grilled striped bass with olive oil-braised potatoes, wild mushrooms, baby spinach and salsa verde. You can even bring the food home with you long after your meal is over, with two cookbooks by Danny Meyer and Chef Michael Romano.
