Moishe's
Tradition and quality define this historic Montreal steakhouse on St. Laurent Boulevard. Family-owned since 1938, Moishe's doesn't seem to have changed much since then, and that's a good thing. Sure, it's expensive, but Montreal's oldest steakhouse serves what is widely considered the best plate of beef in the city. Moishe's prime cuts are aged in their very own meat lockers and cooked to perfection. While most regulars stick with the beef, Moishes also offers a nice chicken teriyaki and arctic char. Moishes clientele is about as old school as they get, which is no surprise considering the restaurant's motto is "There is absolutely nothing trendy about Moishe's."

La Queue de Cheval
Watch your king-sized hunk of dry-aged, prime beef cook slowly before you at this hugely popular Montreal steak house. Make no bones about it: La Queue de Cheval is for steak lovers and steak lovers only. Working in an atmosphere that feels more like a stable than a gourmet restaurant, La Queue de Chaval's jovial cooking and waitstaff deliver some of Montreal's best beef, and lots of it. There are no frills here; meat is sold by the pound and side orders all cost extra. While it's not cheap (easily over $100 a head with a bottle of red wine) this Montreal institution offers one of those rare, gut-busting culinary experiences that's worth every penny.

Magnan
This convivial steakhouse is famous for its roast beef and steaks, though there are plenty of other options to keep everyone in the gang satisfied. The salmon pie is especially popular among those who shy away from the meat. Magnan is located in a working-class neighborhood and caters to a decidedly mixed crowd. Everyone from wealthy businessmen to dock workers come here for the tasty beef and stay for the hockey game. In the summer Magnan offers outdoor seating and fresh Quebec lobster. There is also a nice selection of microbrews on tap.
