After a long day of skiing down Mount Bachelor or mountain biking along Deschutes River Trail, nothing beats a hearty Italian dinner. Giuseppe's Ristorante

For a quarter of a century, Giuseppe's Ristorante has been feeding Bend residents such authentic Italian dishes as Lamb Osso Buco and Gnocchi Genovese. The scrumptious meals are the result of old family recipes that came with owner Peggy Falcaro when she moved from New York to the Pacific Northwest. While Falcaro took her recipes with her, she left the high prices and white tablecloths behind. This is an affordable, casual restaurant with glasses of wine starting at $5, as of December 2009, and crayons for drawing on the paper table covers.

Staccato at the Firehall

While this restaurant has only been around for a few years--it opened in November 2005--it has received high praise from "Gusto Magazine" and "Bend Living Magazine." Diners and food critics find the food and the atmosphere equally impressive. You can dine on Wild Boar Pappardelle while sitting in the soft light of the elegant Fireside Room. A sidewalk patio allows guests to do some people-watching while nibbling on an order of Fritto Misto. With 250 wine options and such rich dishes as Veal Saltimbocca and Shoulder Tender Sous Vide, this restaurant definitely caters to the sophisticated palate, which makes it the ideal place for a date or an evening out with your friends.

Ciao Mambo

Ciao Mambo's menu offers a special low-carb section; although all five meals are salads, these dishes are more complex than your average salad. Take the Insalata di Melanzane alla Parmigiana, for example. Ordering this will put you face-to-face with a plate of sliced eggplant topped with mozzarella and ricotta cheeses, sitting on a bed of fresh baby greens tossed in balsamic vinaigrette. Ciao Mambo's menu also contains familiar foods with a new twist. For example, you can order Nachos all' Italiana as an appetizer. Guests also can create a pizza with such toppings as sausage and pepperoni. For the more adventurous palate, the menu offers gorgonzola and artichoke hearts. Ciao Mambo is a family-oriented restaurant. A children's menu is available.
