Indian Restaurants in Seattle

Indian Restaurants in Seattle
The lure of snow-capped mountains, the sparkling waters of Puget Sound and a landscape that stays green year round brings new residents to Seattle in droves. Many of the residents of the Seattle area, new and old, are of East Indian descent. According to The Seattle Times, the Indian population in the state of Washington has grown five times the size it was during the 1990 census. That's great news for people who love Indian food, because the area boasts dozens of great Indian restaurants.

Annapurna Café

Annapurna Café on Capitol Hill is not strictly an Indian establishment. The restaurant serves items found in the cuisines of India, Nepal and Tibet. The spinach momo, a dumpling appetizer, is famous in Seattle, and every meal should be accompanied by garlic naan. Try the Bhartha lamb, cooked with eggplant, or the Palak Paneer for solid dinner choices. There are plenty of vegetarian options clearly marked on the menu, and the restaurant is open every day.

Bengal Tiger East Indian Cuisine

People don't go to Bengal Tiger in the Roosevelt neighborhood for the decor or atmosphere; they go for the food and friendly service. The non-greasy pakoras and samosas are some of the best in town. The vegetarian menu is extensive, and most entrees can be vegetarian or made with a variety of meats. Alu Gobi, Biriyani and Tikka Masala with lamb are all good choices. The lunch buffet is solid, and the restaurant is open every day.

India Bistro

This busy Ballard restaurant is the place to go in Seattle for moist, smoky tandoori chicken. Chicken Vindaloo, Kashmiri Rice, Eggplant Bharta and anything with lamb in it are also excellent reasons to have a meal at India Bistro. The default servings are fairly mild, so if you like your food spicy, specify the heat level you want when ordering. The lunch buffet is served every day except Sunday, and dinner is available every day.

Pabla Indian Cuisine

Head to downtown Seattle for one of the best lunch buffets in town, with a nice selection of meat dishes, vegetarian dishes, curries and all the standards you expect. If you go at any other time, any of the Thali meals is recommended, consisting of a tray overflowing with three entrees, rice, naan, raita and a dessert. The chicken curry is spot on. The restaurant is open every day, but the buffet is not available on Sundays.

Taste of India

Taste of India in the University District is the best known Indian restaurant in Seattle. The reasons for that include the best naan in town, the mango curry and a creamy butter masala sauce that you can have with paneer, vegetables or your choice of meat. Service is fast and friendly, and the atmosphere, decor and the building itself are truly a taste of India. The restaurant is open for lunch and dinner every day.
