Hotels in Rome, NY
Rome wasn't built in a day, true for the city in Italy and true for the city in Oneida County, New York. Originally known as Fort Stanwix, the city changed its name in the 1800s and is now one of several Central New York cities bearing Italian monikers (Syracuse, Cicero, Pompii, Verona, Fabius). The city is in the heart of the Leatherstocking Region made famous by James Fenimore Cooper's Leatherstocking Tales. History buffs should look to the Erie Canal which offers a long, flat gravel surface extending all the way to neighboring Syracuse, along the old waterway and is perfect for joggers, hikers or cyclists. The canal can be picked up at Erie Canal Village.
