A small town in the Shasta Cascade of the Northern Sierra Mountains, 40 miles from Redding, Calif., Castella offers hiking, fishing, skiing, boating and rock climbing. Visitors can picnic along the Sacramento River and explore Castle Crags State Park with its 28 miles of hiking trails, one of which has an access trail to the Shasta-Trinity National Forest.

McCloud Dance Country RV Park

A stream runs through the park and trout-filled ponds provide fishing on the resort grounds. There are 30-amp sites with water, sewer and cable television hookups. Guests have access to a laundry room, general store and bathrooms with free showers. A play area is on-site for kids, and pets are welcome. Reservations are recommended during summer and holidays.

Lake Siskiyou Campground and RV Park

The Lake Siskiyou Campground and RV Resort is a few miles from downtown Castella. Open seasonally between April and October, the Siskiyou offers hookups with electric, cable television, Wi-Fi, water and sewer. Hot showers and private toilets, a laundry room and game areas are on-site for guest use. There are boat rentals and water tours through the neighboring marina. Pets are welcome at the Siskiyou. Reservations are strongly suggested.

Mount Shasta KOA

Good Sam and AAA discounts are available. The KOA has sites of all sizes, including pull-thru sites for large RVs with slide-outs. There are standard sites with 30- and 50-amp options, electric, water, sewer, dump station, cable television and Wi-Fi. Playgrounds, barbecue grills, fire rings, pet walk, laundry room, hot showers, private toilets and a guest house with modest kitchen facilities are all on-site. The Mount Shasta KOA is open year-round, but reservations are recommended for holiday weekends and peak summer season.
