Shady Grove
After a dip in Barton Springs Pool, relax under the spreading pecan trees at Shady Grove. Just a block from Zilker Park, the stone restaurant with the large patio is easy to spot on busy Barton Springs Road. Since 1992 Austinites have come here to enjoy the kitschy ambiance that is just a few blocks away from the Lady Bird Lake hike and bike trail and close to downtown Austin. The menu includes favorites such as Big Thicket Cajun meatloaf, Airstream chili, bacon cheeseburgers and chocolate icebox pie. Shady Grove does not take reservations, but you can wait for a table on retro patio furniture, or visit the hippie trailer. In the summer, Shady Grove hosts Unplugged at the Grove that features local musicians playing on the open air stage.
