Wetumpka, Alabama, is the county seat of Elmore county, Alabama, and is considered part of metropolitan Montgomery. It calls itself "The City of Natural Beauty" with such landmarks as the Wetumpka crater, or astrobleme ("star-wound"), and Jasmine Hill Gardens. Wetumpka is named by the Creek for the sound that the Coosa River makes as its waters fall over the Devil's Staircase. The name means "rumbling waters." Wetumpka is near several natural resources, such as Coosa River, Swayback Bridge Trail, and Lake Jordan. These offer a multitude of opportunities for human-powered activities, like biking, hiking, and white water sports. It is also that home of the newly constructed Poarch Creek Indian casino which is said to be the largest casino in the country outside of Las Vegas.
