The many museums of the Smithsonian Institute are located along the National Mall in the heart of Washington DC. With other important buildings nearby like the White House, the United States Treasury and the Capitol building, so too are numerous hotels offering a variety of accommodations for a multitude of budgets. The area around the mall is very walkable with important pockets of American history at every corner. A more somber hike can be had across the Potomac at Arlington National Cemetery. The bucolic hillside memorial offers rich vistas and a chance to reflect on the heroes who help protect and shape this nation.

Remodeled in 2009 the Days Inn is a full service hotel in downtown in the heart of the Washington DC museum district. Competitively priced, the hotels has a rooftop pool offering a nice view of the surrounding area. Rooms come with in room safes, coffee makers, hair dryers, make-up mirrors, free newspaper, mini-refrigerator and free Wi-Fi. Parking comes with a fee but as this is down town Washington DC, that is to be expected. There is an on-site health club and several popular eateries such as the Hardrock Cafe, Planet Hollywood within walking distance.

Capitol Hills Suites

The Capitol Hill Suites is a collection of apartments built in the 1950s that has been transformed into a chic urban environmentally friendly accommodation. Mornings are started with a continental breakfast consisting of hot and cold cereals, fruits, assorted fresh breads such as bagels, danish, muffins and assorted juices. However, since all the suites have a full kitchenette, you can always prepare your own breakfast to get a head-start on sightseeing. Suites come with both wireless and wired Internet access. A business center is also available, but with the free Wi-Fi connection throughout the complex, your suite can double as your office. The Four Points by Sheraton Washington is within walking distance of the Smithsonian and offers guest smoke-free rooms. The amenities are several but the "Four Points by Sheraton Four Comfort Bed" is top of the list for sleep comfort. Leading the trend of offering comfortable bedding, the Sheraton Chain has earned praise for their innovation and comfort. All rooms have free high speed Internet, 32" flat screen TVs, coffee makers and hair dryers. Refrigerators and microwaves are available but there is a fee for their rental. The hotel offers late night room services, a rooftop pools and sundeck as well as a business office and concierge.
