Restaurants in St. Louis, Missouri
St. Louis has a little something for everyone when it comes to restaurants. Big chain eateries are hard to come by in the city and locally owned places abound. Diners can find anything from classic American dishes anywhere in the city to comforting Italian food in The Hill neighborhood to ethnic cuisine of all types on South Grand Avenue. Some eateries have even become local institutions.

Tony's

One of the city's top fine dining restaurants, Tony's isn't really a family place. But those looking to splurge won't be disappointed. Publications such as the magazine "Conde Nast" have recognized the restaurant as one of St. Louis' best. The menu items include sophisticated dishes, such as lobster albonello, stuffed quail, veal loin chop in a truffle sauce, and the classic filet mignon in a Chianti sauce. The restaurant also has a wine list a mile long.

Blueberry Hill

In the heart of the Delmar Loop, which the American Planning Association calls "One of the 10 Great Streets in America" for urban retail, arts and entertainment, this restaurant is a must-stop for many travelers. Burgers are one of the most popular items on the menu and you can get them pretty much any way you want them. Food is available until the later hours of the evening. The bar has an expansive tap beer selection. The place doubles as a music venue and Rock and Roll father Chuck Berry plays there several times each year. The walls alone are a tourist attraction; they are lined with framed photos of the owner posing with the many famous faces that have passed through---politicians, actors and rock stars.

Pi

President Barack Obama tried this restaurant's cornmeal-crust pizza on a campaign stop in St. Louis and he liked it so much that he asked its owner to come to Washington, D.C., and make the pizza for the president and his family. The pizza's crust is unlike that found at other St. Louis pizzerias and you can get it thick or thin. Toppings sit on top of the cheese to bring out their flavor. Seasonal salads and appetizers also are available, as is a good beer selection. The owners also strive for environmentally friendly business practices. The restaurant has two locations in the city---one in the Delmar Loop neighborhood and one in the nearby Central West End neighborhood. A third location is in Kirkwood, a St. Louis suburb.
