Hands Free Navigation
The Garmin Foretrex 101, unlike most GPS receivers, is worn on your wrist. This is advantageous for outdoor activities where you might need your hands free, such as kayaking. It is also lightweight, weighing just 2.6 oz.
WAAS Ready
The Foretrex 101 uses WAAS, or Wide Area Augmentation System. While all GPS units are accurate to within 15 meters, WAAS is accurate to within as little as three meters.
TracBack
The Foretrex 101 has Garmin's TracBack function, which creates a record of the path you have taken by marking up to 500 waypoints along the way. You can store 10 different routes in the Foretrex as well.
Waterproof
The Foretrex is waterproof to IPX 7 standard, or to a depth of 1 meter for up to 30 minutes. This makes the Foretrex 101 handy for boating and other water activities.
Value
The Garmin Foretrex 101 costs less than many other GPS receivers, running around $100 to $140. Even so, it has all the standard GPS features, including 12-channel receiving, which helps with accuracy.
