San Francisco Chinatown Restaurants

San Francisco Chinatown Restaurants
San Francisco's Chinatown, perhaps the largest Chinese community outside of Asia and the oldest Chinatown in North America, brims with gifts and herbal shops, temples, Chinese theaters and pagoda roofs. Chinatown in San Francisco is a tourist destination in itself, attracting more visitors annually than the Golden Gate Bridge. Some natural attractions accessible from Chinatown include the hiking trails of Sutro Baths and Lands End and the lush greenery of The Golden Gate Park. Chinatown has more than 300 restaurants waiting to satisfy the cravings of any tourists.

House of Nanking

These is no reason to miss the famous House of Nanking at 919 Kearny St. because of its multicolored sign. Highly recommended by most travel guides, this restaurant serves generous portions of Shanghai-style dishes and complimentary authentic Chinese tea. The chaotic ambiance, unbalanced wooden tables and stained menus seem to add to the charm and authenticity of this Chinese restaurant. House of Nanking also provides catering and food-to-go orders.

Pot Sticker

Pot Sticker sits on the block for which Waverly, Amy Tan's main character in her book, "The Joy Luck Club," is named after. As the name suggests, the restaurant specializes in potstickers. It also serves delectable Hunan-, Mandarin- and Szechwan-style dumplings. Pot Sticker accepts online and phone orders, makes delivery and offers take-out. It caters to corporate events and family affairs.

Sam Wo

Sam Wo is popular among late-nighters and is usually packed even at 1 a.m. with people trying to finish a bowl of congee. A true hole in the wall, customers will have to pass through a narrow stairwell in order to seat themselves. Expect to dine amid a boisterous and busy environment, often with chattering waitstaff and waiters ferrying orders--that's the signature of Sam Wo Restaurant and one of the main reasons why it has scores of loyal diners. The restaurant serves American and Asian cuisine and caters to full-loving groups. Unfortunately, Sam Wo does not accept reservations and does not provide access to handicapped customers. The restaurant opens from 11:00 a.m to 3:00 a.m. except Sundays when it closes at 9:30 a.m.
