Pioneer, Tenn., is a small community with a big draw to outdoor enthusiasts. It has few motels but is home to several other lodging resorts. Within only a few miles, guests can hike at historical sites like the Cove Lake State Park, a 667-acre state recreation area that was established in the 1930s. A visit in winter time allows them to witness the many Canadian geese that make Pioneer their winter home. The ancient Americans, or mound builders as they were called, once lived here, and the mounds they built and dwelled in are still visible. Choose one of the town's quaint motels to stay in as you explore the area.

Ride Royal Blue

Ride Royal Blue is a motel with riding privileges. All-terrain vehicles are all the rage here. It offers miles of gorgeous mountain terrain trails to enjoy on an ATV, mountain bike, four-wheel-drive buggies, jeeps, trucks and horses. Maneuver challenging trails or stick to the comfortable easy rides. Families are welcomed and it has trails for all skill levels. Lodging includes cabins, RV sites and tent sites. A two-day minimum stay is required, and cabin choices are the rustic cabin with one cozy room, deluxe cabin with a queen, full and a sofa bed, and the redneck retreats, which are 35-foot-long cabins with full kitchens, private beds and a private bath.

Pioneer Cabins

This private ranch sits on 12 acres of mountainous scenery. It is open year-round, and while it isn't in Pioneer proper, it is only a seven-minute drive away in Townsend. It offers cozy cabin stays as well as a petting zoo, pony rides and hiking and biking trails. The seven cabins it offers range in size from small and cozy for a couple to large spacious cabins for families. It also has cabins with handicapped facilities.
