Linden Hills is between Lake Calhoun and Lake Harriet, where you can take a boat ride, fish off the dock or swim. You also can walk, bike or rollerblade on paths along each lake. Linden Hills has many parks with tennis courts, playgrounds and picnic areas. You can bike or walk in the Linden Hills neighborhood, where you will find a variety of boutique stores and restaurants.

Café Twenty Eight

Café Twenty Eight is a family-owned, neighborhood bistro that serves organic cuisine made from such locally-grown ingredients as organic eggs and chicken, as well as steaks from grass-fed cows. Items on the menu include appetizers, soups and salads, organic chicken or tofu tacos in salsa verde, grilled rack of lamb, Fisher's Farm pork in adobo, and Thousand Hills grilled flat-iron steak. You can order from an extensive wine and beer list, including Belgian and domestic beers. A children's menu also is available. The cafe is open from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday-Thursday; from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday; and brunch is served from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday.

Zumbro Café

Zumbro Café is a family-owned restaurant that serves fresh and healthy meals. Zumbro's dishes are made from scratch using local organic ingredients. The cafe also offers a full espresso bar. For breakfast, order a special homemade granola with organic rolled oats, nuts and dried fruit; fresh fruit and berry-yogurt; or milk and flapjacks. For lunch, try the grilled portabella mushroom salad, a grilled chicken breast sandwich or an albacore tuna sandwich. Sandwiches are served with your choice of roasted potatoes or mixed greens. A children's menu also is available. For brunch, you can order such dishes as eggs Benedict, chicken wild rice hash, tofu scramble, homemade soup and flapjacks. As of December 2009, Zumbro is open for breakfast and lunch from 7 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Tuesday-Friday. Brunch is served from 7:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

Trattoria Tosca

Trattoria Tosca is an Italian restaurant that serves appetizers, soups, salads and entrees. You also can order dishes to share with two to four people. Items on the menu include winter squash soup, warm beet salad, tagliatelle, Maine lobster tail and beef rib-eye steak. For dessert, try the panna cotta, apple crisp, ginger cake or three scoops of gelato. Trattoria Tosca offers wines by the bottle or by the glass, as well as beer. The restaurant is open from 5 to 9 p.m. Sunday-Thursday and from 5 to 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
