Tabor, S.D., was founded in 1869 by a group of settlers from Czechoslovakia. As of 2000, it had a population of just more than 400 people, all of Czech and/or German heritage. Its nickname is "A Little Czech Town on the American Prairie," and it is listed as number 22 on the list of "Top 101 Zip Codes with the Largest Percentage of Czech First Ancestries." Every June, the town celebrates Czech Days.

The town is located in Bon Homme County, and St. Wenceslaus Church is the only church in town. There are no motels located in town. The closest are located in Tyndall, which is three miles northwest of Tabor and in Yankton which is four miles southeast of Tabor.
