Steak Restaurants in NYC

Steak Restaurants in NYC
After exploring Central Park and New York's other outdoor attractions, you will probably be in the mood for a good steak. New York offers some of the finest steak restaurants in the world, but be sure to avoid the more touristy places around Times Square. Rather, go where the locals go.

Peter Luger Steak House

In the competitive culinary scene of New York City, longevity is always a sign of quality. Peter Luger Steak House has been around since 1887, making it one of the city's premiere destinations for steak lovers. With its distinctly old fashioned décor, featuring all-wood furnishings, Peter Luger serves up traditional steak meals in a gentleman's bar type atmosphere.

Churrascaria Plataforma

Churrascaria Plataforma is not your traditional steak restaurant. Rather than choosing your steak from a menu, you get a variety of fine meats brought to your table throughout the evening in exchange for a fixed price. Expect to eat lots of lamb, beef, chicken and steaks. Only come if you're exceptionally hungry.

Del Frisco's

Del Frisco's offers a taste of Texas in the middle of Manhattan. A massive list of USDA prime steaks competes with an attractive offering of seafood specialties, including crab cakes, jumbo shrimp and fresh oysters. The restaurant is quite large, so service can be a bit impersonal at times---you will be one of over 400 diners in a restaurant spread over three floors of the McGraw Hill Building. But, as they say, everything's bigger in Texas.

Smith & Wollensky

Smith & Wollensky is a steak restaurant founded by Alan Stillman of TGI Friday's. This elegant midtown eatery features a classic turn-of-the-century look and caters to a well-dressed set of mainly businessmen. Try the sirloin steak or the prime rib. The split pea soup makes for a nice starter.

Strip House

Strip House is a renowned steak place in New York that was awarded four stars by Forbes Magazine in 2008. The cheeky name of the restaurant refers both to the ambiance, with its mock burlesque décor, and the delicious cuts of New York strip steak that they've become known for over the years. It's not all about the steak, however; Strip House also offers an array of delicious side dishes, such as Goose Fat Potatoes and Black Truffle Cream Spinach.
