Medora, North Dakota, just south of the Theodore Roosevelt National Park, has horseback riding, cattle drives, nightly musicals, yodeling and dancing, and a cowboy poetry festival in May. The town is situated in the picturesque Bad Lands. The National Park has hiking trails, where buffalo, deer and even wild horses are visible. The town is small and remote, so calling ahead for reservations is a must, and be ready for the numerous trains that cut through town.

Children under 13 are not charged. There are smoking and non-smoking rooms. Old fashioned carriage rides are available outside.

Rough Riders Hotel

The romantic Rough Riders Hotel is situated down town, has antique beds and desks and a wooden boardwalk outside. Bathroom showers are renowned, and tiles have Teddy Roosevelt's brand on them. There is natural wood paneling, with clothing hooks, and the restaurant on the ground floor is renowned locally for good food. The hotel's renovation and expansion should be completed by the spring of 2010, taking it from eight rooms to over 50. Rooms are small and extremely clean, more suitable for couples than families.

Badlands Motel

Badlands Motel has an outdoor swimming pool, air conditioning, and a miniature golf course, making it ideal for families. No smoking is allowed, and pets are not allowed. Rooms have two double beds or one king sized bed. The front desk is well informed about local festivities.

Bunkhouse Motel

Bunkhouse Motel has simple air conditioned rooms and a heated, outdoor swimming pool centrally located. Rooms have one queen or two twin sized beds, and family suites, with a queen and two twins, and separate bathrooms and TVs are available. Cots are also available for large families. This is simple, no frills, clean and reliable accommodation.
