Diamond Head, a 760-foot high volcanic crater, derives its name from the volcanic crystals that nineteenth century sailors mistook for diamonds. Diamond Head State Monument is located approximately two miles from Waikiki on the southeast coast of Oahu.

A steep short .8-mile trail from the crater interior to the summit rim affords a panoramic view of Waikiki. The walk to the site includes a 99-step stairway and may be difficult for the physically impaired. Tunnels and staircases are well lit, with restrooms and drinking water available.

Hyatt Regency Waikiki Beach Resort and Spa

Hyatt Waikiki Beach is a 1,229-room resort and spa. Each room is equipped with a flat screen TV, Internet access available by request with an on-site business center, 24-hour laundromat and mini-refrigerator. A doctor's office and bank are on property. Concierge service is available in the lobby.

Five dining options are available on the property ranging from The Colony (elegant dining) to Hyatt on the Beach (sandwiches and snacks).

A 10,000 square foot, two-story luxury spa with 15 treatment rooms and sauna is on the property. An outdoor, unheated swimming pool and sundeck overlooks Waikiki Beach and includes two outdoor, heated whirlpools. Jogging paths are nearby.

Daily entertainment can be heard in the Elegant Drive restaurant in the hotel. Hawaiian, jazz, Latin, pop, oldies and Polynesian music are performed nightly in the Great Hall Atrium. Every Friday is "Aloha Friday" in the Great Hall.

The Lotus at Diamond Head

The Lotus, a boutique hotel with 51 rooms, includes cable TV, CD/DVD players and private lanai.

Dining choices include the Diamond Head Grill Restaurant open for dinner and the Honolulu Bar with evening hours. A variety of quality restaurants and bars are within walking distance.

Ocean Resort Hotel Waikiki

Ocean Resort is a 450-room resort between two towers and rooms with ocean views, kitchenettes, a mini-refrigerator and cable TV. A gift shop for sundries is in the lobby.

Resort amenities include two outdoor swimming pools with a generous sun deck. Concierge service in the lobby and 24-hour coin laundry are also available.

Dining includes Ocean Seafood & Steak restaurant open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Punawai Lounge, a karaoke and sports bar, is open nightly in the hotel lobby. The resort is within easy walking distance of restaurants, bars and lounges.

Waikiki Grand Hotel

The Waikiki Grand Hotel is a 180-room, moderately priced hotel, featuring studios with views of Diamond Head or the Pacific Ocean. Some rooms include kitchenettes and DVD players. All rooms have Internet access, refrigerator, microwave and color TV. There is an outdoor pool and sundeck on property, along with coin-operated laundry facility.

Hula's Bar and Lei Stand is on the second floor of the hotel and open daily from 10:00 a.m. -- 2:00 a.m. Teddy's Bigger Burgers, on the first floor, is open from 10:30 a.m. -- 9:00 p.m.
