From the late 1960s to the late 1990s, Richard Louis Proenneke was a naturalist who lived in a self-built cabin in Twin Lakes, Alaska. He built his cabin using only hand tools and is celebrated for his wilderness ethic and remarkable craftsmanship. His cabin is presently managed as part of the Lake Clark National Park and is open to the public for viewing. There are many lodgings and cabin rentals to choose from for those wishing to visit Proenneke's extraordinary cabin.

The Farm Lodge

The Farm Lodge is located near Lake Clark National Park in Port Alsworth. In conjunction with Lake Clark Air, guests can go "flightseeing" by floatplane to many of Alaska's most scenic landscape including Proenneke's cabin on Twin Lakes. There are many activities to do while staying at the lodge, such as bear viewing, sightseeing, caribou viewing, flightseeing and catch-and-release fishing. The lodge provides comfortable accommodations with private baths and affordable meals for guests. Available services include small group excursions and customized backcountry trips.

Windsong Wilderness Retreat

This retreat is located right on Twin Lakes, making it convenient for those visiting the cabin of famed Richard Proenneke. The cabin is equipped with propane cooking stove, wood heat and can accommodate up to a group of six. There is also an outboard motor 16-foot boat for guests to use. Nearby is the Alaska's Lake Clark National Park providing many recreational opportunities such as hiking, wildlife viewing, and fishing. Guests are treated to Twin Lake's scenic mountain views and wildlife sightings of moose, caribou, grizzly bears, ptarmigan and fox. Hiking sights such as waterfalls, glacier valleys and mountain tops are sure to please nature lovers.

Redoubt Mountain Lodge

Redoubt Mountain Lodge is situated right on Crescent Lake in the Chigmit Mountains. The lodge gets its namesake from the 10,197 ft (peak) Redoubt Volcano, which is just eight miles away. The lodge has six private log cabins with amenities such as propane heating, screened-in gazebo hot tub, internet connection and TV. Guests can enjoy breathtaking views of the crescent lake and surrounding mountains. Activities include hiking, kayaking, water skiing, fishing, bear viewing & exploring the surrounding area including the Proenneke cabin in Twin Lakes.
