Chelsea Hotel Miami Beach

Strange, creative and energized by the Art Deco period, The Chelsea in Miami Beach is a masterpiece hotel off Washington Avenue. The hotel's exterior looks soothing enough with white umbrellas and frothy palm trees, but the interior is truly shocking: black and cream lace wallpaper coats the hotel walls, and chic wood-paneled bedrooms center on bright white beds. The bedrooms are furnished in a modern style and are surprisingly soothing with Feng Shui accents. Bedrooms have soft amber lighting, bamboo finished floors, Sony stereo and CD system and spa style bathrooms. Guests are encouraged to explore the area attractions: Jungle Island Miami VIP Safari Tour, hike and ride an airboat through the Florida Everglades or boating in the bay. To relax in the evening, take in the South Beach Miami nightlife from the hotel's patio and complimentary happy hour at the bar. The 100 percent non-smoking rooms, as of December 2009, start at $99 to $199 per night.

Mondrian South Beach Hotel

Definitely one of the most eclectic hotels in the city, the Mondrian South Beach, a Morgans Group hotel, burst from designer Marcel Wanders' imagination. The hotel hosts one of his signature "floating staircases" in black spiraling to the second floor. A young girls' face, with extended dreamy features, seems to float through the hotel's walls and into the bedrooms. Apart from all the crazy designs and inspiring motifs, the hotel shows off amazing views of the Atlantic, Biscayne Bay and sparkling downtown Miami. Guestrooms are individually styled and prepped to include deluxe showers, floating writing desks, story-book furniture, equipped kitchens, free Wi-Fi, garden or sea views, and beds outfitted in luxurious Egyptian cotton. There is 24-hour room service and in-room spa treatments available for guests. Adventurous visitors and Miami locals enjoy extreme sports--scuba diving, wake boarding, skydiving and rock climbing are just a few. Nature lovers should plan a visit to South Pointe Park, right on Washington Avenue, to walk or ride the boardwalk, fish off the pier or watch the sunrise or sunset from the dock. As of December 2009, studio rooms start from $395 per night; deluxe one-bedroom start at $745; and sky terrace suites go for $4,000 per night.
