WilloWood Inn
The WilloWood Inn is the closest motel to Devil's Lake State Park. The motel itself is located in the middle of a stretch of forests and rolling hills, giving it an old-fashioned rustic feel. The WilloWood isn't part of any chain but is family-owned. Because of this, its decor is on the eclectic side. One room features a large painting of bare autumn trees with geese flying over them.
The WilloWood is a nice place for guests tired of corporate chains. Visiting the motel's website provides clues that the WilloWood is a bit different from corporate-owned lodging; the site features a prominent shot of the motel's owners smiling back at guests.

Thunderbird Motor Inn
Visitors to the Thunderbird Motor Inn might think they've stepped back in time to the heyday of Route 66. From the retro sign outside it to the clean but basic rooms on the inside, the Thunderbird Inn is a reminder that motels were once simple places for travelers to rest--not destinations in themselves.
