Restaurants Near North Salina Street in Syracuse, New York
Syracuse, the largest city in central New York, has a long tradition of Italian food due in part to the large Italian population established there in the early 20th century. Syracuse's Little Italy, the area around North Salina Street, is a rich buffet of sights, sounds and smells, with numerous eateries, bakeries and specialty shops. Rich in tradition, many of Syracuse's Italian restaurants have been in business for more than 40 years.

The Syracuse area offers more than just a meal. The surrounding green hills are lined with hiking opportunities. A local favorite day hike is along the towpath of the Erie Canal. Located just a few miles from the Salina Street area, the canal offers almost 30 miles of uninterrupted tranquility.

Aunt Josie's Restaurant

Aunt Josie's Restaurant is little more than a hole in the wall, but what a hole this is. The restaurant is known for its handmade, homemade pasta, rich, thick sauces and large servings. The menu has varied very little since the restaurant opened in 1961, and that's just fine with the regulars who return week after week.

Francesca's Cucina

Francesca's Cucina is a bit of a break from the traditional "home-style" Italian restaurants in the Salina Street area. A bit more sophisticated, the restaurant includes a bar and an intimate bistro style. The menu is created daily, so you may want to ask your server for suggestions. The dining room is beautiful, but ask for a table on the patio in good weather for the truly intimate Italian dining experience.

Frankie's Piccolo Bistro

Frankie's Piccolo Bistro, is a hybrid of the "home style" restaurants and the more modern establishments. The Tuscan ravioli with sauteed prosciutto, mushrooms and sun-dried tomatoes is a favorite, as is the linguine con vongole made with whole "little neck" clams, white wine, lemon and butter sauce. The seating is limited, so book reservations.
