Waterfront Restaurants in Seattle

Waterfront Restaurants in Seattle
With Puget Sound to the west and Lake Washington to the east, Seattle is surrounded by water, so it's no wonder that water activities are popular. You can spend a day sailing, power boating, jet skiing, parasailing or scuba diving and still not have to go far from the water for a meal. Waterfront restaurants abound, and you can even tie a boat up to the docks owned by a few of them.

Elliott's Oyster House

As the name implies, Elliott's serves oysters -- over thirty kinds of oysters at the 21 foot long oyster bar. You can get them on the half shell, pan-fried, Rockefeller style--they serve them all. While the downtown waterfront restaurant specializes in oysters, they also prepare just about every other kind of seafood imaginable, as well as steaks, salads and pasta. The whole Dungeness crab is highly recommended. The restaurant is open for lunch and dinner every day of the week and offers an impressive view of the boats and ferries on Elliott Bay.

Ivar's Salmon House

Ivar's Salmon House is a Seattle institution where salmon is alder smoked over an open pit in a building built like a Native American longhouse. Located at the north end of Lake Union, near Gas Works Park, driving isn't the only way to get to this restaurant--boaters can tie up at the dock and enjoy a meal before getting back out on the water. Fresh seafood is the star of the restaurant, with salmon, crab, prawns and more prepared in a variety of ways. Sunday brunch draws a large crowd, as does happy hour out on the deck during good weather. Views of downtown Seattle are spectacular.

Ray's Boathouse

Ray's Boathouse has a long history in Seattle. If you want a restaurant that is beloved by locals and visitors and overlooks Shilshole Bay, Puget Sound and boats on their way to the Ballard Locks, look no further. The Northwest Style Bouillabaisse, loaded with Penn Cove mussels, manila clams and Alaskan salmon, illustrates the fresh and local approach to food. Start with the Boathouse Salad and end with the chocolate and port sampler. Ray's is a dinner restaurant.

Salty's is next door to the dock and serves up a stunning view of the downtown Seattle skyline as well as special meals and homemade ice cream.
