Chadron, Neb., is located near the Pine Ridge, a natural area of ridges, canyons, pine trees and buttes. It is also not far from the Nebraska Sand Hills, the Black Hills of South Dakota and the Niobrara and White rivers. Chadron offers several motels, restaurants, discount stores, grocery stores and specialty stores.

Olde Main Street Inn

This historic building in downtown Chadron offers a unique lodging experience. This is a bed-and-breakfast attached to a restaurant and saloon. It was built in 1890 and retains much of the original charm. The rooms are furnished with antiques and are far enough from the saloon and restaurant to not be bothered by noise from those areas. The rooms each have their own bathroom. The saloon and dining area features a 25-foot-deep lighted wishing well. The included breakfast offers guests homemade bakery items served at the guests' convenience. The Olde Main Street Inn is located within easy walking distance of several restaurants, bars and stores in downtown Chadron. Traffic is minimal and easy to navigate.

Super 8

The Super 8 motel offers conventional comfort at economical prices. It features an indoor pool and hot tub, non-smoking rooms and mini-suites. Guests can also enjoy a free continental breakfast and free high-speed Internet access. Pets are allowed. It is located near several fast-food and sit-down restaurants on Highway 20.

Highway 20 will take you 27 miles west to Fort Robinson State Park, which features museums highlighting history from the prehistoric fossils found in the area to buildings and artifacts from the fort's days as a World War II cavalry remount station. Fort Robinson State Park also offers trails for hiking and biking.

If you follow Highway 20 east, it will take you into the Sand Hills, the country made famous by Mari Sandoz's writings. A self-guided circle tour will take you to the places she loved and wrote about in her many fiction and nonfiction books.

Motel 6

Motel 6 in Chadron offers an indoor pool, elevator, free high-speed Internet access, free coffee and expanded cable. Pets are allowed. Motel 6 is one of the newer motels in town and is located just off Highway 385, near the hiking, mountain biking and fishing opportunities offered at Chadron State Park. It is just blocks from Chadron State College, a four-year college, and Wilson Park, a quiet park with picnic shelters and playground equipment.
