Local Restaurants in Chicago, Illinois

Local Restaurants in Chicago, Illinois
Chicago has long been known for its wonderful array of authentic ethnic foods. The large metropolis is home to many devoted second- and third-generation Americans who still hold dearly their immigrant heritage. Their devotion is illustrated in their cooking, and a diverse restaurant industry in the city proves this point. Tourists and locals alike have a multitude of choices in terms of cuisine and many restaurants to test their palette. Ethnic neighborhoods and communities boast strong ties to their culinary heritage. The only question remains: Where to eat?

Pizzeria Uno

Pizzeria Uno is the home of the deep-dish pizza--Uno's was the site of the original deep-dish pizza. Opened in 1943, Uno's founder Ike Sewell claims to have invented the deep-dish pizza by filling a circle pan with three-inch high sides full of pizza ingredients. Today Uno's, which has many locations around the country, offers a wide variety of Italian favorites, including pasta, chicken and sandwiches. Like your typical pizza parlor, Uno's is informal and requires only casual attire. However, pizzas can take up to 45 minutes to prepare, so you might want to call ahead and place your order before you go in.
