Deservedly so, Norman Crampton, author of The Best Small Towns in America, ranks Saranac Lake as the11th best small town in the US. This little town with its lively arts scene sits cozily in the High Peaks Region of the Adirondack Mountains, in the largest public park in the lower 48. The six-million acre Adirondack Park was established in 1892 and contains both public and privately held lands, all designated "Forever Wild". There are 46 mountain peaks over 4,000 feet, about 30,000 miles of streams and rivers and 3,000 lakes. Saranac Lake is one of the larger Adirondack lakes.

On the shore of Lake Flower, a smaller lake within the town of Saranac Lake, Lake Flower Inn is within walking distance to restaurants, shopping and theaters. The inn has a pool, internet access via the telephone line, and it offers free use of a canoe to paddle around Lake Flower. Children under 16 stay for free and the inn is pet friendly. Rates are modest. Lake Flower Inn is close to the Olympic venues, skiing, snowmobiling, cross-country, and snow-shoeing trails, as well as downhill skiing.

Though you will be close to all the activities that the Adirondacks High Peaks Region has to offer, Gauthier's Saranac Lake Inn offers so many free recreational opportunities, you may not need to leave the inn in order to have fun.
