Kure Beach, North Carolina lies at the southern tip of North Carolina's Pleasure Island. Outdoor recreational activities include hiking, canoeing and kayaking at Fort Fisher State Recreation Area, bird watching and biking at the North Carolina Aquarium at Fort Fisher's bicycle and pedestrian path, and enjoy water sports in Kure Beach Pier. Kure Beach is also home to uncrowded beaches and many casual, family restaurants where you can enjoy a great meal.

Jack Mackerel's Island Grill

Jack Mackerel's Island Grill has an extensive menu that features soups and salads and entrees such as ribeye, fried shrimp, filet mignon, bacon-wrapped scallops with fontina, and Caribbean rice and chef's vegetables. Seafood entrees include shrimp skewers, fresh Atlantic salmon topped with scarlet orange, fresh ahi tuna, fresh lump crabmeat, and jumbo shrimp breaded in coconut. All entrees are served with a Caesar or house salad. Jack Mackerel's Island Grill is open every day for lunch and dinner.

Freddie's Restaurant

Freddie's Restaurant is an Italian-American restaurant. The menu includes appetizers such as fried calamari, seafood portabella and garlic shrimp, soups and salads and pasta, steak, chicken, pork, veal, and seafood entrees such as lasagna, chicken marsala, shrimp scampi, grilled pork chop, and veal parmigiana. A vegetarian menu is available and all entrees are served with a house salad and Italian bread. Steaks and chops are served with either a pasta side dish, potato or sauteed vegetables. You can also purchase, Barb's Salad Dressing, which is made by the restaurant's owner, Barbara Gargan.

Old Pier House Restaurant

Old Pier House Restaurant serves old-fashioned, southern meals and seafood entrees. The restaurant serves breakfast daily from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m. The breakfast menu includes eggs cooked any style, omelets pancakes, biscuits breakfast sandwiches, country ham, sausage, city ham, grits, fries, and French toast. You can order lunch starting at 11 a.m. until closing. The lunch and dinner menu include soup and a sandwich, fried flounder, shrimp, oyster, deviled crabs, clam strips, soft shell crab, and seafood combination platters. All seafood platters are served with fries, coleslaw, and hush puppies, which is a dish made of cornmeal bread that is deep fried or baked. Sandwiches include hamburgers, hot dogs, grilled cheese, shrimp burgers, oyster burgers, crab cake, flounder filet, grilled chicken, turkey, reuben, roast beef, club, and Philly cheese steak. A children's menu is also available as well as appetizers and salads.
