Durable
The Garmin 60 receiver is excellent for rugged environments because it has a tough case that won't break easily when dropped. In addition, the exterior of the Garmin 60 is waterproof so it won't malfunction if it gets a little wet. It is waterproof up to the European rating IPX7, meaning that it can withstand an accidental dropping in up to 1 m of water for up to 30 minutes. Users should note, however, that the Garmin 60 does not float.
WAAS
Another important attribute of the Garmin 60 receiver is that it is Wide Area Augmentation System-enabled, or WAAS-enabled. WAAS was created by the FAA to give greater GPS accuracy for aircraft. In order to increase its accuracy, WAAS utilizes radio signals giving an accuracy to within 3 m. In addition, the GPS receiver also has an external antenna that is perfect for receiving signals when there is very little open sky overhead.
Worldwide Maps
The Gamin 60 comes preloaded with worldwide city maps, making it perfect for travelers. In addition to the preloaded maps, the GPS receiver also has 1 mb of internal memory that can be used to store up to 500 destinations. You can load data onto the Garmin 60 using either a serial or USB connection. However, the Garmin 60 has no external memory slot.
Long Battery Life
For those using the Garmin 60 over several days, battery life is an important aspect since you don't want to have to carry a pile of batteries with you. The Garmin 60 takes 2 AA batteries that last for up to 28 hours.
Tracklog
The Garmin 60 GPS receiver comes with a tracklog function. The tracklog creates a record of the path that the GPS has traveled by noting points along the way. The Garmin 60 can store up to 10,000 points and save 20 different tracks.
