Vegetarian Restaurants in the Seattle Area

Vegetarian Restaurants in the Seattle Area
Men's Fitness Magazine has consistently rated Seattle in the top ten on its annual list of fittest cities. It's no wonder considering the easy access to outdoor activities and the high interest in healthy lifestyles. The interest in health in Seattle includes support of several vegetarian restaurants and delis where menus offer vegetarian, vegan and raw foods that appeal even to carnivores.

Araya Vegetarian Place

Located in the University District, this vegan Thai food restaurant attracts more than just the college crowd. People come from all over the city for favorites like crispy spring rolls, hot and sour Tom Yum soup, Phad Tai with tofu and Avocado Curry. The affordable lunch buffet features a basic array of rice and noodle dishes, curries and steamed vegetables and always draws a crowd. The restaurant is open for lunch and dinner every day except Sunday, and the location boasts a parking lot; a rarity in the neighborhood.

Cafe Flora

Cafe Flora is the kind of vegetarian restaurant that can even make a carnivore happy. The menu focuses more on innovative uses of fresh, local and organic food and less on using meat substitutes. One delicious exception is the pate platter made with lentils and pecans. The French Dip sandwich features portabella mushrooms and is a perennial favorite, as are the yam fries. The classic cheese pizza is a hit with kids. The restaurant is located in the Madison Park neighborhood and is open every day. Try to get seating in the relaxing atrium, a fully enclosed patio with greenery and a fountain.

Carmelita

The modern décor of Carmelita is echoed in the menu, where classic dishes like pizza and an antipasto platter are given inventive, vegetarian twists, and a crepe filled with smoked cauliflower has nothing to do with tradition and everything to do with taste. The foccacia and the fennel ice cream are made in house and the ingredients for every dish are fresh and organic. This restaurant in the Phinney Ridge/Greenwood neighborhood is only open for dinner and is closed on Mondays.

Chaco Canyon Organic Café

The atmosphere of Chaco Canyon is a little piece of the Southwest in the Pacific Northwest, but that's as far as any regional influence goes in this vegan establishment in the University District. The restaurant is one of the few in the city with a menu of raw food that includes items like pizza and a nacho plate as well as salads. The rest of the menu is vegan, with offerings like sandwiches and rice or quinoa bowls. Breakfast is a popular meal here and can be had every day.
