Mexican Restaurants in Montclair, New Jersey

Mexican Restaurants in Montclair, New Jersey
Montclair is a peaceful town right outside of New York City. It is home to numerous parks and nature reserves, making it a prime destination for devotees of hiking and cycling in nature. Mountainside Park, Watchung Park, Eagle Rock Reservation and Brookdale Park are just a few of the many green spots worth exploring in Montclair. The town is also home to a few quality Mexican eateries that are worth trying.

Tinga Taqueria

Tinga Taqueria is part of a small New Jersey chain. The restaurant is open for lunch and dinner. Their steak tacos, which come with Pico de Gallo, lettuce and Monterey Jack cheese, are quite tasty. Tinga Taqueria has a vast selection of 12-inch burritos---but don't bother with these unless you're absolutely famished or are used to extra large portions. If you happen to make it into Montclair around lunchtime, Tinga Taqueria's $5 and up lunch menu is an attractive option; in addition to the standard array of Mexican specialties, they also offer several wraps and sandwiches.

Mexicali Rose

The entrées at Mexicali Rose are priced in the $14 to $16 range, and are generally a good deal, although the portions are not always as large as you might expect. If you're not feeling very hungry, go for one of their inventive starters, such as the Santa Fe Ravioli---jalapeno dough ravioli stuffed with southwestern cheese and slathered in a light red sauce. Mexicali Rose is a BYOB restaurant, so diners are encouraged to bring a bottle of wine that goes well with spicy Mexican food. Their guacamole gets very high marks, and there is a delicious veggie burrito on the menu for the non-carnivorous.
