Uchi Restaurant
The word "Uchi" is Japanese for "home," which seems appropriate for this small restaurant in an old refurbished house (uchiaustin.com). Uchi specializes in contemporary Japanese fare, meaning that you'll find much more than sushi and sashimi. Each night, chef Tyson Cole prepares a unique menu with unexpected spins on classic dishes such as the French-Japanese fusion dish "foie-gras nigiri." This is one of Austin's most costly restaurants, with most small plates costing approximately $20.

Hudson's on the Bend
Hudson's on the Bend is for romantic dates where both parties are adventurous eaters. Hudson's on the Bend prides itself on its menu of rare game; don't be surprised to find bison, elk, snake or quail on the menu. Expect to pay a hefty price for these uncommon dishes, as entrees like an "Espresso-Chocolate-Chili Rubbed Elk Back" can cost upward of $40 (hudsonsonthebend.com). If you enjoy your meal, consider enrolling in one of Hudson's on the Bend's cooking seminars, which take place on a monthly basis.

Aquarelle
Although it may be Austin's most expensive restaurant, don't let that stop you from experiencing Aquarelle at least once. This Italian eatery, in the city's downtown, provides the high level of service that will impress any date. Like many fine dining establishments, Aquarelle serves smaller portions, so don't expect to leave stuffed, and don't skip out on its take on Italian classic desserts.
