Hotels in Dewitt, New York

Hotels in Dewitt, New York
Dewitt, New York, is a largely residential suburb of Syracuse. Lightly wooded and punctuated by nice homes, Dewitt makes a great base camp for those visiting Central New York. A safe community, Dewitt is just 15 minutes from downtown Syracuse, Dewitt offers numerous scenic vistas and places to explore. Hikers will want to see Clark Reservation, the site of an Ice Age riverbed and waterfall. The falls are long gone and the base of the falls is now a small lake. Hiking trails abound and fishing is allowed. The lake at Clark Reservation is one of only 15 meromictic lakes in the country. A meromictic lake seldom mixes the top waters with the bottom waters creating brilliant coloration. Nearby Green Lakes State park features a hiking trail surrounding the shimmering green lake and boats are available for rent. From Green Lakes, adventuresome visitors can hop on the towpath of the Erie Canal. The Canal in this area is still intact and offers a gravel towpath that runs from Dewitt to Rome, New York, some 30 miles east. Green Lakes State park also houses one of the areas best public golf courses. If you're arriving in winter, dress warm as Syracuse winters rival Buffalo for snowfall and sub-zero temperatures. The northern side of Syracuse is the permanent home of the New York State Fair.

Econo Lodge

Dewitt's Econo Lodge offers comfortable rooms at an affordable price. Guest room amenities include: hair dryers, irons and ironing boards with select rooms having hot tubs. Non-smoking and handicap rooms are available. This is mostly no-frills accommodation. From this location the start of the Erie Canal at Cedar Bay Park, the local starting point for the 30 mile uninterrupted towpath, is just a short drive away.
