Restaurants in Old Town Sacramento, California
Old Sacramento sprawls along the banks of the Sacramento River, a 28-acre National Landmark District and State Historic Park. You may come to enjoy the boating and fishing, but when darkness falls, you will find dining options that throw in a taste of the city's unique history.

Fanny Ann's Saloon

The current incarnation of Fanny Ann's opened in 1972 on the site of the historic Fanny Ann steamboat. The boat was destroyed by fire in 1869, but Ms. Fanny and her successors have been pouring cold beer in the same location for more than 100 years. The menu offers a variety of sandwiches and salads, but burgers are the house specialty. Choose from 11 burgers, all served with salad or fries. Happy hour is from 4 to 8 p.m. weekdays. Check the website for daily specials. Prices are reasonable.

The Firehouse

For a more upscale but equally historic dining experience, try the Firehouse. Operated on the site of Sacramento's Firehouse #3, built in 1853, the Firehouse has provided a fining dining experience to guests for 50 years. The menu is organized into three courses, and entrees include game hen, salmon and steaks, among other choices. The restaurant maintains a comprehensive wine cellar, with 2,100 labels represented and a collection of rare wines. The Firehouse serves lunch Monday through Friday and opens for dinner at 5 o'clock nightly. Prices are steep; reservations are recommended.

Fat City Bar & Cafe

Frank Fat and his family have been a mainstay of the Sacramento restaurant business for 50 years. They operate Fat City on the site of the town's first general store, which the family has fully restored and furnished to match the original 1849 structure. The menu offers something for everyone: salads, sandwiches, pasta, seafood, red meat and tasty side dishes. Check out the Monday night special, a three-course New York steak dinner. Prices are moderate.

Delta King Pilothouse Restaurant

The menu is nicely varied, and a monthly tasting menu that pairs wines with a four-course meal is offered. Prices are moderate; reservations are recommended.

Cafe Americain

Cafe Americain is new to Old Sacramento. Billed as a "Champagne and Caviar House," the menu is strongly slanted toward a wide variety of caviar. Dinner selections are limited to a featured entree each day and they are open Thursday through Saturday only. The jury is out on this new spot, but if you are adventurous and not worried about your budget, give it a try.
