San Francisco Waterfront Restaurants

San Francisco Waterfront Restaurants
San Francisco is world famous for fine food and gorgeous waterfront views. These attractions are combined exquisitely in several individual restaurants that have come to define waterfront dining in the Bay Area. From the ocean to the bay, and with traditional San Francisco flair, these restaurants offer the best of the best in both cuisine and atmosphere. Of course, San Francisco abounds with excellent food, culture and views, so this list shouldn't be interpreted as being exclusive, but as a starting point for exploring the City by the Bay.

Cliff House

Cliff House is located in the Sutro Historic Landscape District, the largest urban national park in the United States. As its name suggests, it literally a large house situated on a cliff outcropping overlooking the Pacific Ocean. Cliff House actually houses two restaurants. The casual Bistro Restaurant on the main level offers breakfast, lunch and dinner, many of which feature the local fresh seafood, with spectacular ocean views. Sutro's, on the lower level, offers a more elegant menu amid panoramic ocean views behind floor-to-ceiling glass windows.

It also happens to offer breathtaking views of the Golden Gate Bridge from its position at Fort Mason along San Francisco's northern coast. The restaurant was originally converted from a warehouse by the San Francisco Zen Center and still retains fantastic wood furnishings and sculpture in 12 types of wood. The restaurant incorporates fresh organic produce from the Marin Headlands into its creative fine dining offerings.

Waterfront

Located a mile from Fisherman's Wharf on the Embaradero, the stretch of road hugging San Francisco's northwest coast, the name of this restaurant says it all. The restaurant began life as a bar for longshoremen, but the fantastic view afforded by its waterfront location soon attracted more upscale local clients and tourists. In the late '90s, the building received a multimillion-dollar renovation that made it a world-renowned destination. Today, the Waterfront serves the city's most upscale diners the best seafood in town.
