Portsmouth, on the south coast of England, is famous for having the world's oldest dry dock and as a centuries old naval port. Renowned as a port city, Portsmouth is now popular with water sports enthusiasts who visit the city for boating and sailing. Outdoor enthusiasts too will love Hilsea Lines on Portsea Island, where you'll find woodlands, marshland and many varieties of wildlife. Cyclists can access the National Cycle Network from Portsmouth. For history buffs, don't forget to visit the D-Day Museum and the HMS Victory, Horatio Nelson's flagship that fought in the Battle of Trafalgar. There's so much to see in Portsmouth but luckily the city has many hotels for a couple of days stay or longer.

The Queen's Hotel

This large independently-owned hotel was one of Portsmouth's first hotels. Opened in 1861, it burned to the ground 30 years later but was rebuilt in 1903 and has been open ever since. The Queen's Hotel boasts 72 en suite guest rooms, all with TV, beverage making facilities, direct dial telephone, hairdryer and in-room Wi-Fi internet (for a fee). All rooms are non-smoking and most have ocean views. A full English breakfast is included in the room rate if you're on a bed and breakfast package, or available for a charge if you're not. Lunch, afternoon tea and dinner are also served in the hotel's Princess Restaurant. Many of Portsmouth's main historic attractions are within walking distance of the Queen's Hotel.

The Keppel's Head Hotel

The Keppel's Head Hotel was built in 1779 and still keeps many of its historic features today. Located in Portsmouth's harbour district, it's a wonderful location if you're planning a day out on the water sailing or kayaking, or for just a walk around the neighborhood. The hotel offers 30 traditionally English decorated guest rooms, all with en suite bath, beverage making facilities and TV. Some rooms have harbour views. Room rates include a full English breakfast. The hotel bar also serves tea and coffee throughout the day as well as the usual bar drinks.

The Florence House Hotel

The Florence House Hotel is a small boutique hotel located in an Edwardian house. Each room is individually furnished with either an antique Victorian or modern decor. Each room has an en suite bath, tea and coffee making facilities, TV and DVD player and high-speed Wi-Fi Internet. All rooms are non-smoking. Breakfast is included in the room rate and is cooked to your specifications with choices of full English, continental, vegetarian or even salmon and champagne breakfasts. Lunch and dinner are also available in the hotel's restaurant with an extensive a la carte menu to choose from. The Florence House Hotel is in a perfect location for a walk on the quay, a morning shopping in the city's trendy shops, or an afternoon in the Hampshire countryside.
